Colorful Holi USA style

In India, the Holi Festival (or Festival Of Colors) marks the beginning of spring. Communities in many American cities have adopted and adapted the occasion, such as Riverside, California, where we attended the event this year.  It featured music, dancing, yoga, refreshments, arts and crafts and a lady walking and dancing on stilts. And best of all, the colors.

In traditional Holi festivals in India, people throw around liquid colors and smear each other with them. Americans have made it slightly less messy by using powdered color instead. It still gets all over your clothes and skin and hair, and brightens the atmosphere in more ways than one. There’s nothing like smearing a total stranger with color, and having them do likewise to you.

Special thanks to Festival of Colors USA for providing the colorful adventure.
