In Episode 19, although winter is fast approaching, we look back on some summer highlights from the Northeast that we haven’t covered yet. And somehow, most of them involve being up in the air.
First, the annual Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally from Binghamton, NY. We don’t care for the spiedie part, since that’s a meat concoction and we’re vegetarians. But we’re fascinated by the balloon part, especially since people bring (and fly in) their balloons from all over the world, some of them in very imaginative shapes.
We had a chance to become balloons ourselves at Island Style Parasailing in Newport, Rhode Island. Riding out on a boat, we were attached to a parachute and hoisted hundreds of feet up into the air and over the ocean. And some people just settle for Google Maps to get the lay of the land.
And at Skyventure in Nashua, NH, we flew a few feet off the ground in a wind tunnel, such as sky divers use for training. Then we went surfing at an indoor artificial wave pool that wiped us out but didn’t wipe the grins off our faces.
Whether on land, in the air, on the sea or in chlorinated water, we’re never ones satisfied with just keeping our feet on the ground.
Special thanks to Island Style Parasailing and Skyventure for providing the adventures this episode.
